It’s no secret we are seriously addicted to burgers. But even the juiciest, most velvety and flavorful beef requires the occasional taste switch up. That’s when we put on our culinary caps and look for ways to make an already excellent burger extraordinary!
One way to do this is to switch out your burger toppings. Switching out your cheese, vegetables and toppings can bring out distinct flavors in the beef that maybe more subtle on a plain burger.
Four Out-Of-The-Ordinary Burger Recipes
The bun: A standard bun will do, or opt for Hawaiian-style or potato bun. The sweetness is a nice contrast the spicy sriracha.
Mix into the ground beef: 1/4C onion, 1/4C soy sauce, 1/4C cilantro and 2 cloves of garlic
Top with: Sriracha mayo, arugula, red onion and cilantro
Fruit and Nut Burgers
The bun: A whole-grain bun or artisanal roll complement the nuttiness of this burger.
Mix into the ground beef: 2T walnuts, 1/4t salt, 1/4t pepper
Top with: Sliced Granny Smith apple, Brie cheese, and 4t blackberry reserves
The bun: An onion bun is delightful for this burger, but with so much crunch and flavor, you can also opt to go bunless.
Mix into the ground beef: 1/2C crushed tortilla chips, 1T cilantro, 1t cumin, 1t garlic, ¼ shredded Monterey Jack cheese and 1/4t pepper.
Top with: Cheddar or Pepper Jack cheese, mayo, ketchup, tomato and jalapenos
The bun: A soft whole-grain bun pairs nicely with the acidity of the tomato-mint salsa
Mix into the ground beef: 3/4C grated zucchini, 1/3C red onion, 2 cloves of garlic, 1/4C whole wheat bread crumbs, 1/4C parsley, 1T chopped mint, 1t cumin, 1t coriander, 1/4t allspice, 1/4t chili powder, ¼ salt and a dash of pepper
Top with: Sliced cucumber and a salsa made of cherry tomatoes, chopped mint, lemon, olive oil, salt and pepper.
