What do your fall weekends look like?
Ours brags of perfect red and black patches of face paint over a two-day-old beard, vibrations of fans' favorite cheers filling the lots adjacent to the stadium, oddly-colored Nike shoes side-stepping sticky remnants of spilled beer, and the smell of competing barbecues blasting the air with the scent of perfectly grilled beef. We know tailgates, and as the self-proclaimed, unofficial burger of NFL and NCAA tailgates all around the United States (just ask the folks at "What the Buc?" at your next Buccaneers game!), we must say, if you have not partook in this fall football tradition, you are missing out! Tailgating is a time-honored tradition where sports fans, foodies, and football enthusiasts come together to celebrate before the big game. It's not just about the food or the game; it's a culture, a community, a chaotic camaraderie and those who have mastered it, seek the MVP title every game. But tailgating takes practice, so if you are rookie looking to score big at the next game, this guide will keep you from turning your tailgate into a penalty flag on the play. Do's of Tailgating Do Cook Like a Champ Your grill skills could make or break your tailgate. Remember, what you cook says a lot about whether your tailgate is worth stopping by. We recommend starting with the classics—Steakhouse Elite burgers (crafted to perfection and ready to grill and serve), hot dogs, and ribs. The smell of perfectly grilled beef? That's your touchdown pass! Do Dress the Part Your attire is your uniform, your battle gear, and your team's lucky charm all wrapped into one. Whether it’s your favorite jersey, a hat sporting your team's logo, or face paint, wear it with pride. The more insane, the better! Do Know the Game and Team Brush up on your sports trivia. Knowing the game and the team can earn you the MVP award in any tailgate crew. Who was the coach in '82? Which player had a record-breaking season last year? Even if you're a grill master, being the master at stats can make you the star. Do Bring the Right Equipment Pack your tailgating essentials. This includes a reliable cooler, portable grill, foldable chairs, and, most importantly, a good playlist. A portable speaker blasting classic stadium anthems could drown out the noise from rival fans. Do Be a Good Sport Tailgating is all about fun, so leave the trash talk at home. Engage in friendly banter, cheer for your team, but be gracious whether you win or lose. High-fiving strangers is encouraged—unless they’re holding a plate of nachos! Don'ts of Tailgating Don't Ignore Traditions Every team has its tailgating traditions. From signature cheers to unique rituals, understanding and participating in these traditions is crucial. It’s the secret handshake of tailgating. Don't Forget the Extras Condiments, napkins, utensils—missing these is like fumbling on the one-yard line. Keep your tailgate efficient by packing the small stuff. Your ketchup-loving comrades will thank you for knowing how to perfectly dress a burger. But, in the event you forget, one of the great things about tailgating culture is: there's almost always a fellow fan willing to help you out! Don't Waste Food Sure, it's tempting to grill up a storm, but tailgating is a marathon, not a sprint. Plan your portions, share extras with neighboring tailgates, or pack some to enjoy during halftime. Remember, an empty cooler is a happy cooler. Don't Park Without Permission No one wants to be the tailgater who parked illegally and got towed before kickoff. Always check the parking rules and get there early to snag a prime spot. Your grill (and your pocket) will thank you. Don't Leave Your Trash The golden rule of tailgating is to leave no trace. Clean up your space, dispose of trash properly, and leave the area as you found it. A clean tailgate is a winning tailgate. Tailgating is an art form, a dance of flavors, sights, and sounds that paints the perfect pre-game picture. With this guide in hand, you’re ready to tackle game day like a pro. Just remember, the key to a successful tailgate is more than just great food and good company—it's the love of the game and the spirit of the fans that truly make it special. Next time you fire up that grill, channel your inner tailgating legend. And if you happen to stop by a Buccaneers game, tell the “What the Buc?” crew we said hi. Now go forth and tailgate like a champ!

Grab a napkin, some killer toppings and your Steakhouse Elite burgers, we have a story to tell about the flavorful beginnings of our favorite food-related past-time, the barbecue, that begins 1.5 million years ago. And while it's modern-day common summer practice for long weekends, tailgates and celebrations, it started with the beginning of man, when early humans discovered fire and began cooking meat over open flames. This method was not only practical but also delicious, but it paved the way for the barbecue we know and love today. Spanish Beginnings and American Adoption The word "barbecue" has its roots in the Caribbean when the Taino people called their cooking method "barbacoa," which involved slow-cooking meat over a wooden platform. Soon after, Spanish explorers adopted the term and introduced it to the American colonies, where it began to evolve into various regional styles. When European colonists arrived in the Americas, they brought with them their own barbecuing techniques. The English, French, and Spanish each had unique methods, leading to a melting pot of flavors; a diverse background which has become the backbone of America's rich barbecue culture. Move forward to the Civil War, which played a huge role in popularizing barbecue in the United States. Troops often had to cook large amounts of meat to feed soldiers, making BBQ a go-to method. Post-war, these techniques spread throughout the country, making barbecue a nationwide favorite. Following the Civil War into the Industrial Revolution, these times brought with it more modern tools and techniques to the masses. Suddenly, barbecue wasn't just for the elite; it became accessible to the working class. This era saw the rise of homemade grills and smokers, bringing BBQ to backyards everywhere. The mid-20th century marked the golden age of barbecue. It became more than just a meal; it turned into a social event. Barbecue competitions and festivals started popping up, turning this culinary tradition into a beloved pastime. Fast forward to the 21st century, and barbecue has gone global. Thanks to the internet and social media, pitmasters from around the world share techniques, recipes, and tips, making it a truly international affair. The American Barbecue Today Barbecue has always been more than just food. It's a centerpiece at social gatherings like family reunions, community events, and national holidays. It brings people together, fostering a sense of community and shared experience. In America, the popularization of the barbecue has created a variety of tastes and techniques from each region in the U.S., creating a unique barbecue style in different areas and becoming a source of local pride. Whether it's the tangy vinegar-based sauces of the Carolinas or the sweet tomato-based sauces of Kansas City, barbecue is a culinary identity:
And let's not overlook the humble hamburger, a staple of American BBQs. While not "barbecue" in the traditional sense, it has earned its spot on the grill and in our hearts, alongside other common meats like pulled pork baby back ribs, smoked brisket, grilled veggies and chicken wings. All of this is because barbecue isn't just a way of cooking; it's a way of life. From ancient times to the digital age, it has evolved and adapted, becoming a beloved tradition across the globe. Outdoor cooking enthusiasts, home chefs, and grilling aficionados know the magic of a well-seasoned, clean, and maintained outdoor griddle is almost as important as what you put on it. With the rise of the smash burger trend, ensuring your griddle is in top condition has never been more important. So while you know where to buy the best beef around (aka Steakhouse Elite premium Kobe-Crafted beef), it is just as important to understand how to season, clean, and maintain your outdoor griddle, helping you achieve a perfectly-grilled burger every time.
The Smash Burger Revolution The popularity of outdoor griddles has skyrocketed, driven by the growing love for smash burgers. These thin, crispy-edged patties are a hit at backyard barbecues and weekend cookouts. But to get that perfect sear and juicy interior, your griddle needs to be in peak condition. Whether you're hosting friends or just enjoying a weekend cookout with family, a well-maintained griddle can make all the difference. Seasoning Your Griddle Why Seasoning Matters Seasoning your griddle is crucial for preventing food from sticking and for creating a non-stick surface that enhances flavor. A properly seasoned griddle also helps to prevent rust and extends the life of your cooking surface. This layer of seasoning builds up over time, creating a smooth, non-stick surface that is perfect for cooking all types of food, especially burgers. Methods for Seasoning To season your griddle, start by heating it up until it is very hot. Apply a thin layer of oil (such as flaxseed oil, canola oil, or grapeseed oil--or opt for the various seasoning and conditioning kits made by griddle manufacturers) to the griddle's surface. Use a paper towel or cloth to spread the oil evenly. Allow the oil to smoke and burn off, then repeat the process several times (you may notice a change in color on older griddles as the oil smokes off and this is good!). This will create a durable, non-stick coating. Recommended Oils For the best results, use oils with high smoke points. Flaxseed oil is a favorite among many griddle enthusiasts because it polymerizes well, creating a hard, durable surface. Canola and grapeseed oils are also excellent choices due to their neutral flavors and high smoke points. Cleaning Techniques After each use, it's essential to clean your griddle to keep it in top condition. While the griddle is still warm, use a scraper to remove any food debris. Wipe down the surface with a damp cloth. If needed, add a splash of water to help loosen any stubborn bits. Finish by applying a light coat of oil to protect the surface. Deep cleaning should be performed periodically to remove built-up grease and food particles. Begin by heating the griddle, then use a griddle stone or a specialized cleaning pad to scrub the surface. Rinse with water and dry thoroughly. Apply a thin layer of oil to re-season the griddle. Maintaining Your Griddle Maintaining your griddle ensures it stays in top working condition. Regularly, these maintenance tasks should be completed:
Proper storage is crucial for protecting your griddle from the elements. Here are some tips:
Taking proper care of your griddle not only extends its lifespan but also enhances your cooking experience. A well-maintained griddle ensures even heat distribution, prevents food like burgers from sticking, and makes cleaning up a breeze. Plus, it keeps your cooking surface safe and sanitary, so you can focus on making delicious meals. Mastering the art of griddle maintenance will take your outdoor cooking to the next level. From seasoning to cleaning and storage, each step is essential for keeping your griddle in perfect condition. Burgers, once a lonely piece of ground-round on bread, have come a long way from their boring ancestors. They now stand as a canvas for culinary creativity, allowing us to pile on an array of flavors and textures limited only by your imagination and ingredients in your fridge. Whether you're grilling in your backyard or ordering from a sleek city joint, the right toppings can turn a good burger into an experience. And, while we wholeheartedly believe it is the beef that makes the burger, a zealous topping attempt always has us drooling, so here's our list of the top 10 burger toppings that will have your taste buds dancing with joy!
Top 10 Burger Toppings 1. Classic Cheese. Let's kick off this list with the ultimate crowd-pleaser – cheese! Melty, gooey, and undeniably delicious, a slice of your favorite cheese on a hot off the grill burger is pure comfort. Cheddar brings a sharpness, American cheese stays delightfully creamy, and Swiss adds a nutty flavor. And what about the tangy punch from blue cheese? Whatever your preference, cheese is the perfect companion for any burger. 2. Crispy Bacon. Bacon makes everything better, and when it meets a burger, the delicious factor goes through the roof. Its smoky, fatty, salty flavor pairs exquisitely with beef. Opt for crispy bacon to contrast the softer textures of the patty and other toppings. It's a texture match made in heaven, adding crunch to every bite. 3. Fresh Lettuce. Lettuce is the unsung hero of burger toppings, providing a refreshing crunch and a cool contrast to the heat of the patty. Iceberg is usually the go-to for its super crisp, juicy crunch. Its ability to act as a cooling agent in the burger's flavor profile is not to be underestimated, especially on a particularly hot and sunny day. Some people like their burger lettuce so much, they forgo the bun all together and opt for this crunchy delight instead, which is low carb and diet-friendly. 4. Juicy Tomatoes. Fresh tomatoes bring a juicy, tangy burst to your burger, and it's an absolute must-have. A couple of slices can balance the richness of the meat and the savory flavors of the other toppings. Opt for a ripe, beefsteak variety for the best flavor; the leaner the fruit, the better it will hold up against the warm patty while contributing to a refreshing, juicy burger element. 5. Flavorful Pickles. The beauty of pickles is their transformation of an ordinary burger into a zesty, lively experience. Their tangy, briny crunch contrasts the softness of the bun and the meat perfectly, ensuring every bite has a little kick. Bread and butter, dill, or even spicy pickles – the choice can range from traditional to adventurous. 6. Tangy Onions. Raw, grilled, or caramelized, onions bring a bold, sweet flavor that complements the beef like nobody's business. Red onions are the champion for that mild crunch and vibrant color, which not only work wonders for your taste buds but also for the burger's Instagram appeal. 7. Creamy Avocado. Avocado adds a smooth creaminess that's a delightful change from the usual cheese slices. Its rich flavor and texture bring a certain luxury to the burger experience. Guacamole or a simple mash with a hint of lime juice can also make for a deliciously creamy alternative to the expected toppings. 8. Spicy Jalapeños. For those who like it hot, jalapeños are the go-to burger topping. Their mild to moderate heat level gives just the right amount of kick without overwhelming the other flavors. Sliced or pickled, they add an exciting element that can jazz up even the plainest burger. 9. Earthy Mushrooms. A pile of tender, sautéed mushrooms atop a burger creates a savory umami bomb that is out of this world. Button, cremini, or portobello – each variety brings its unique depth of flavor. You might find that this combination becomes your new burger regular. 10. Gooey Fried Egg. Last but not least, the fried egg – an unorthodox yet satisfying addition to any burger. Once that runny yolk meets the rest of the ingredients, it creates a luscious, rich sauce that elevates the whole burger to an indulgent level. The combination of a juicy patty with a creamy egg yolk is an absolute winner. The real beauty of burger toppings is their versatility. Don't be afraid to mix and match – a dollop of guac here, a slice of pineapple there. The ultimate burger experience comes from personalizing it to your taste. Next time you're building your burger, take cues from this list or create your own masterpiece with toppings that turn a great burger into a sensation. Winter food doesn't have to be boring, and burgers are the perfect comfort food to battle the cold, it just requires a small adjustment. Don't let the lack of a grill or warm weather keep you from enjoying your favorite food. When you opt for the tasty, perfectly-textured Steakhouse Elite burger, even an oven burger can be extraordinary! How to Cook a Burger in the Oven 1. Preheat the Oven The first step in cooking the perfect burger is to preheat your oven to 375°F. While the oven heats up, line a baking tray with parchment paper. This will prevent the burgers from sticking and make for easy clean-up. 2. Prepare the Patties--or Buy Ours! Next, make the patties. Mix in salt, pepper, onion powder, garlic, and any other seasonings of your choice to your ground beef. Shape the beef into patties of even size. When shaping the patties, be careful not to overwork the beef as this causes tough burgers. Don't feel like bothering with all that? Pick up a four-pack of Steakhouse Elite, and the burger pressing is done for you! 3. Cook It Up Get the patties onto the prepared baking tray and place them in the oven. Bake for 10-12 minutes, then flip the patties so that they cook evenly. As oven temperatures can vary, use a meat thermometer to determine the burgers' doneness. An internal temperature of 160°F indicates a well-done burger. 4. Add the Cheese. For an extra treat, add a slice of cheese to the burgers during the final moments of baking. Cheddar and Swiss cheese work perfectly for this dish, but feel free to get creative with toppings. 5. Toast the Buns While the burgers are cooking, you have time to toast the buns. Slice your burger buns in half and put them in the oven alongside the burgers. Be sure to keep an eye on them so they don't burn. Extra points for buttering the buns before toasting! Don't let the wintery weather keep you from your burger addiction. With just a few modifications (no mittens and hats required), you can have a satisfying meal ready in no time by putting your Steakhouse Elite Kobe-Crafted pre-pressed burgers in the oven (find them at your local grocer). 10/11/2023 0 Comments The best part of tailgating--the food!Where can you go where you: can be part of the live action, celebrate with your community, wear costumes, and act like you’re 21 all over again? Today we are going to dive into the world of grilling and burgers. If you’re a food lover and want to impress your hungry friends and family with your mad grilling skills, read on! We want to share with you some of our favorite hacks for grilling juicy and delicious burgers like a pro. So light the grill, pull the Steakhouse Elite premium beef out of the fridge and let’s get this barbecue party started with five hacks that will have the entire neighborhood drooling.
1. Choose the right meat (us, we're the right meat!). The key to juicy burgers is the right meat. You want to choose beef that has a good balance of meat and fat content. Ground chuck is one of the best options for burgers as it has just the right amount of fat that will give flavor and moisture to your burgers. Our Kobe-Crafted, 100% all beef burgers are velvety, yet firm, robust, yet beefy for a perfect burger balance every time in your choice of signature Kobe-Crafted, Angus, Grass Fed, Ribeye or Beef with Brisket. Choose your favorite varietal and no need to add anything--these burgers are crafted to perfection and need nothing more than a little salt and pepper. 2. Prep the grill. Before you start grilling, you should make sure that your grill is hot enough to cook your burgers. A good rule of thumb is to preheat the grill to a high heat for at least 10-15 minutes. Brush your grill with oil to avoid burgers from sticking and to make them easier to turn once they’re on. By doing this, you will create those fancy grill marks on the burgers that will look great and add more flavor, upping your overall grill game. 3. Form your burgers. It’s essential to form your burgers properly. Making your burgers too thin might dry them out, and making them too thick might cause them to be too rare in the center. That's why our burgers are pre-pressed to perfection in a 6-ounce portion--so there's no fighting over the largest patty! 4. Cook the burgers. The most important step in making delicious burgers is cooking them properly. You want to sear each side of your burgers for an initial two minutes on high heat to achieve those grill marks we mentioned earlier. After that, you will want to turn them over and keep cooking them until they reach your desired temperature (approximately 4 minutes on each size for medium-rare--the industry standard).
